Pneumatica

Modular typeface and specimen

For this project I was tasked with creating a typeface made out of only three modular shapes. The typeface I developed is a display sans serif font. I had to establish rules, such as the treatment of curves, crossbars, and down strokes, to make a consistent typeface. This took a lot of iteration and fine tuning to get a cohesive style across all of the letterforms.

I also created a specimen to show the typeface in use and to communicate the theme of the font. I chose to name my typeface Pneumatica, referencing pneumatic tubes and the themes of transference and transition which I believe is embodied in the tube like structure of the letterforms.
